Moving a Piece of New York History

The 7,500 square foot Halston House sold for 18 million dollars in January 2019.

The 1966 modernist design by Paul Rudolph and former residence of designer Roy Halston was the legendary party spot in the 1970s frequented by the likes of Andy Warhol, Liza Minnelli, Truman Capote, and Jacqueline Onassis.

German photographer and art collector Gunter Sachs purchased the home in 1990. He filled it with portraits of its famous visitors making it a shrine to the opulent and often lascivious decade of its heyday. Among the photographs were countless works of art including many Warhols (a close friend of Sachs,) including a painting of Brigitte Bardo, Sach’s third wife.

Prior to the sale, the estate of the late Gunter Sachs contracted Compass Fine Art Services to catalogue, store, and eventually relocate hundreds of works of art that were contained within the storied house.
